Hello to our dear and wonderful RVCC Alumni, Choir Parents, and Friends,

I just took a trip down memory lane and looked at choir pictures throughout the years.  We have so many wonderful people in our RVCC family.  I treasure the memories of concerts, trips, long rehearsals, and mostly getting to know you and your families during those growing up years.

With the most heartfelt thanks to you, our champion supporters, we’re making it financially, even though our enrollment is still quite small.  I know many Arts groups who, in our universal rebuilding time after the pandemic, have gone into debt, or shut down completely. But not us!!!  That is all thanks to YOU!  Thank you with all my heart. You’re making a difference in not only helping me worry less, but you’re also making such a difference for these children in the choir to have a place where they can gain confidence, learn how to work as a team, make the best kinds of friends, grow skills to be very proud of, and have important performance experiences that make long-lasting memories.

Would you be able to support us this year in the same amount that you did last year?

Your donations are the reason we are still singing today! Every bit makes a BIG impact in the lives of these children and the community!

As I work with these children week after week, turning into year after year, and decade after decade, I am thankful that the RVCC remains a place of safety, a place to make new friends, and a place for fun, adventure, and beautiful music. Although the world and our personal lives carry uncertainty in many areas, the RVCC values remain the same, and choir rehearsals remain steady in the mission of teaching artistry in choral singing, while also providing a place for all children to feel accepted, important, confident, strong, and growing.

I hear from teachers and parents that many of the youth today don’t have as many opportunities to learn the important character traits of resilience, determination, and perseverance.  In the RVCC, many senior choristers, parents, and alumni tell me that these character traits they learned in their youth in the RVCC are the backbone of who they are today.  This makes my heart sing! We are growing tomorrow’s leaders, one voice at a time!

The RVCC 2024 Fall Retreat!

I continue to love this work everyday. I love the children and their families! The RVCC board and I are diligent with the important task of Succession Planning as I am looking to retire in 3-5 years. It is very important to me that before I retire, this beloved choir is strong and stable to be a shining star in our community, for new generations of children to experience the joy and beauty of music!

With many, many thanks to you for your financial giving these past years, we are in the process of building a stronger and even better choir, and gaining momentum! YOU are a very big reason for the optimism to grow our enrollment back. It is YOUR support (our very dear and wonderful alumni, choir families, and friends) that has kept the vision and the music alive these past several years.

Will you consider a gift this year in the same amount as last year? Or a little more if you can!  If you have never donated to the RVCC, this could be your year! We would love to broaden our base and have your support. ALL donation amounts will help keep us singing and continue changing lives, one voice at a time.  ♪

You and I, together, have built the legacy of our beautiful choir. You have sung your hearts out, volunteered in hundreds of ways, and you and your families have supported us financially. Thank you with all my heart. Thank you for your support of the RVCC. Thank you for your generosity!  Thank you for being in the RVCC family.

With warmest wishes of good health and happiness to you and all of your loved ones,

Ms. D

The RVCC Spring 2024 Concert

Bringing RVCC Traditions of the Past into the Future!

We are committed to continuing the time-honored  traditions and values that have made RVCC so special, while also adapting the choir program to keep up with the modern world to ensure the choir remains vibrant, relevant, and impactful for generations to come. Through lots of research, brainstorming, and input from our choir families we have developed some exciting initiatives to help us along our journey as we continue to build back and regrow! Because of your support, we are continuing to make progress. This is what’s new and returning for the RVCC this year!

1st Annual Concert in 1987

37th Annual Concert in 2024

Here is what is NEW in the RVCC!

  • Focus Groups for the different age groups for us to really learn what is important to our singers and families.  We took our new ideas to the focus groups and it was beautiful to get their support and input! **Our singers report that their #1 favorite thing about choir is that they meet their best friends!  Better friends than at school or any other activity!  (I’m only slightly crushed that their #1 favorite thing isn’t the music, or the great teaching!)

  • A Social Media BOOST!  We have a pretty amazing new choir Mom who is a professional social media content manager. She has volunteered to head up our new Social Media Committee and it’s very exciting! We know the importance of staying up-to-date and modern with our recruitment strategies. We hope to connect with even more people this way to help get the word out about the choir!

  • Community Outreach! Through grant-funding this year, we are bringing music to preschool classes at Head Start Preschools and also sponsoring a 5th Grade Honor Choir for Roanoke City students.

  • We have more scholarships this year, a doubled amount from last year! We want to make the choir financially accessible to as many children as possible!

  • A recruitment plan for our Middle School students to talk with the choir and band classes at their schools. We have students all set to talk at 15 Middle Schools and Homeschool groups!

  • Restructuring the A Choir program for next year to include shorter rehearsals and more fun to engage our youngest singers in 1st-2nd grade!

“A Choir” friends!

Here is what is RETURNING in the RVCC!

  • The School Tour!  With special thanks for a gift to elevate the choir experience this year, we are able to provide buses and go on the School Tour for the first time since 2019!!  We are focusing on Title 1 Schools and including a Sing-A-Long for all the schoolchildren.

  • The Concert Choir is singing in the International Choral Festival in England in July 2025!  Cathedrals and Choirs and so much excitement and beauty are just ahead!  This festival is very similar to the previous Concert Choir trips to Canterbury and London in 2011 and 2017.

Here is what is CONTINUING in the RVCC with Events and Performances throughout the year!

The Fall Retreat provides singers with a perfect opportunity to make new friends, sing together, and have so much fun! This year we had a Scavenger Hunt, Kayaking, Racing Pigs, Crafts and Games, the themed dance and of course Mentoring Rehearsals and lots of good rehearsing!

  • The 8th Annual Community Sing-A-Long at the Taubman Museum of Art on Saturday, December 7th at 11:00 AM.

  • The 38th Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at Cave Spring Baptist Church. Concerts at 1:30 and 4:00 with the Roanoke Chamber Brass.

  • The 38th Spring Concert on Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at Cave Spring Baptist Church. Concerts at 1:30 and 4:00 with String Quartet and flute instrumentalists.

  • The Williamsburg Festival for the A B B+ Choirs. The ABB+ will be traveling to Williamsburg April 11th - 12th, 2025. So many young singers say this trip is the highlight of the choir year for them!
