Full Concert Description
The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir, under the direction of Kimberly Ruse Davidson, will be presenting their 31st Annual Spring Concert, “A Little Spring Music” on Sunday, April 22, 2018 with concerts at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm at Shaftman Hall, Jefferson Center in Roanoke, VA.
Musical selections will include classical, folk, gospel, Broadway and patriotic, accompanied by a professional string quartet. The Concert finale will include all 230 choristers singing selections from “Oliver” choreographed by Kevin Jones. Both concerts will close with a patriotic salute that includes the Salem High School Flag Corp.
The 1:30 pm concert will feature the special end of year chorister awards program.
The 4:30 p.m. concert will benefit Smart Beginnings of Greater Roanoke, and their “Musical Fences” project in the Roanoke Valley at various preschool and child care centers. Smart Beginnings is a locally-driven enterprise that creates community commitment to school readiness by bringing public and private leaders together to collaborate on priorities for their youngest citizens. For the "Musical Fence" project, beautiful fences with musical elements are installed on playgrounds to help some of the very youngest musicians in our area learn to appreciate music and enhance their play.
The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir offers an in depth program of 3 training choirs and a concert choir with a total of 230 children ages 7-18. Mrs. Pattie Clevenger directs the youngest Training Choir accompanied by Mrs. Carla Crouse. Ms. Davidson directs the remaining 3 choirs accompanied by Mrs. Carla Crouse for the Training Choirs and Mr. Reed Carter for the Concert Choir.
Recent featured performances for the RVCC Concert Choir include the 2008 and 2014 Southern Division American Choral Director Conventions, the ACDA National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2015, a solo performance at Carnegie Hall in 2016, and solo and festival performances in Canterbury Cathedral in 2017.
Come and hear this nationally recognized choir as they celebrate their 31st concert year of excellence! Tickets are available at the Jefferson Center Box office at 540-345-2550 or jeffcenter.org.
